Adoptable Dogs

Below you'll find our current group of dogs looking for homes. Remember, in addition to adopting these wonderful companions, you can always swing by and take one or more of them for a walk, a hike, an overnight or camping trip. It's a great way to enjoy the company of a dog and give him some exercise, affection and socialization. You can also hang out in the cat room and play with the kitties. We update this site weekly, usually on Sunday.

If you are interested in adopting, please call 544-0206, or visit us at 101 Animal Shelter Road, located just west of the airport stoplight near the turnoff for the RFTA bus barn.

Bonnie

Bonnie is a gorgeous, red-colored, happy, athletic, two-year-old Golden Retriever. She's great with people and good with cats, but can be aggressive with other dogs. Bonnie needs an active, loving, responsible home.

Stihl

1-year-old Lab/Staffymix male. Very handsome and loving. He will need some fattening up in his forever home. Stihl is a new arrival so we are just getting to know him.

Rudder

Rudder is a 10-month-old handsome German Shepherd male. He adores most people and is calm and gentle with them. He has had some training and knows basic commands. We were told that he can be a little scared of strangers but he was immediately at ease and very friendly with the shelter staff and photographer. He does need some training and socialization but at his young age he will become a most incredible companion.

Nala

Nala is a 3-year-old purebred Alaskan Malamute female. She is gorgeous and active. She is great with kids, but can be dominant with other dogs. Nala needs a responsible, loving, athletic home.

Allie

Allie is a 1-year-old Cattle Dog mix female. She is a fun-loving, high-energy dog. She loves people. She can be aggressive with other dogs and would do best in a single-pet home. She is great with older children but might be best in a home without toddlers because of her energy. Allie knows some commands and responds well when you call her name. As far as her being off-leash, we have been told that once she knows you, she will stick around. She will be a loyal companion.

Wiley

Wiley is a very large 7-year-old Malamute mix male. He’s good with children, but sometimes a little rambunctious for younger kids. He’s gorgeous, sweet-mannered and is very gentle. Wiley is rarely aggressive with other dogs, but like most Northern breed mixtures, he can occasionally demonstrate dominant behavior with other dogs, so he must be in a responsible home. He doesn’t like cats. Wiley will blossom in an athletic, knowledgeable, responsible environment. He prances and smiles! He’s a very happy dog and a big cuddle bug. This is a great dog—a gentle giant!

Boudreaux

“Boudreaux”—French-pronounced Boo-dr-oh—is a 6-year-old reddish/tan Pug/Chihuahua mix male. He’s very good with other dogs, but is not overly social with them. We would recommend a home without small children as he can be a bit sensitive about being petted. He should be approached slowly and gently. It doesn't take long for him to like you. He was originally surrendered due to his issue of separation anxiety. He suffers from seizures and is currently on medication. Perhaps the right home for Boudreaux would be with someone who is not away often and who can provide him with proper exercise. Plenty of stimulus when the owner is absent could also help cure this problem. Look at his adorable, funny face!

Gus

Gus is a 7-year-old Husky mix male. He is white in color with striking blue eyes. Gus is good with other dogs. He is also good with kids but sometimes too energetic in his play with them. He has high energy and is great with people. Gus needs some training and will become a great companion.

Ruby

Ruby is a 3-year-old black and brown brindle Terrier mix female. She is very scared right now. She would be good in a quiet, loving home where she can come out of her shell. She has the cutest under-bite. She wants attention but she needs a gentle touch. Ruby is a sweet dog who will love you back in spades once she knows she can trust her new home.

Max
Max is a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix male. He was adopted from our shelter in 2005 by a woman who loved him very much. Unfortunately she lost her job and had to turn him back in. Max is a special-needs dog due to some paralysis in his spine that causes him to have accidents. His back legs look crooked but he trots right along like a show dog. He can get nippy when scared. Max is a little timid with strangers but will gradually respond to love and a gentle hand. Once he knows you, he shows his BIG personality and is very affectionate. Max would do best in a quiet environment, probably as a single pet
in an adult home.
Maggie
Maggie is a sweet 2-year-old, tan-colored Husky mix female who is slowly becoming more and more comfortable with new people. Maggie is incredibly relaxed and playful with people she knows, but she needs a patient, loving family with whom she can slowly blossom into a happy, extroverted, athletic mountain-dog. Please give Maggie and the other sled-dogs a chance.
Sparrow
Sparrow is a beautiful 2-year-old, white-colored Husky mix female who needs a patient, loving family to introduce her to life outside of her previous sled-dog career. She is incredibly timid due to lack of socialization with people. If you’re interested in alleviating the anxiety of a frightened, unsocialized dog, then Sparrow may be the dog for you.
Robin
Robin is a sweet 2-year-old, golden-colored Husky mix female who is slowly becoming more and more comfortable with new people. Robin is not as timid as her sister, Sparrow, but she definitely needs a patient, loving family with whom she can relax and slowly blossom into a happy, extroverted, athletic mountain-dog.
Pal
Pal is a 12-year-old Husky mix male. He is a former sled dog—a gorgeous blond! He still has lots of energy and spunk. Pal is super friendly with people and has adjusted well to his life at the shelter where he is curious about everything. He is great with other dogs. Pal has a sweet personality and is looking for a loving home for his retirement years.
Colby
Colby is a 12-year-old sled dog. He is a Husky mix male with a gorgeous coat and a beguiling puppy-like face. He looks a bit like a yellow bear. He is great with other dogs. Colby is very friendly with people, although a bit shy at first. He no longer likes to go on hikes. His hind legs have become arthritic. He still wants attention though. Visit him when he is out in the yard or better yet, take him home where he can lounge around in his retirement years.
Billy
Billy is a 3.5-year-old Husky mix male. He loved being a sled dog but he had some medical issues. He was going to be euthanized so we brought him to our shelter. He was so scared at first but has completely come out of his shell. Billy loves to race around the front dog yard and has an exuberant personality. He is very affectionate with people and gets along great with lots of different dogs--large and small. He is submissive and dominant males have taken advantage of him. He is willing to learn and would be a wonderful companion.
Ice
Ice is a 10-year-old Husky mix female. Tall and gorgeous, she is a retired sled dog. She has a really good personality and really likes people. Ice is sweet, calm and quiet. Ice is a dominant female so she is not good with other female dogs but fine with males. She is strong but good on leash. Ice is a demure lady who would love to have a new family.
